Site History
The site is nested within the triangular block bounded by Ewing, Southard and Ogden Streets. Proposed are upgrades to Southard Park, development of contiguous vacant lots at the corner of Ewing and Ogden, and the beautification of Ewing Street to provide a pedestrian friendly and complementary connection. Together, the parks will provide approximately two-thirds acre of open space for nature inspired relaxation, recreation, gatherings and performances.
The site fronts an historic pottery district that has since become home to the Rescue Mission of Trenton. The Rescue Mission plays a vital role both within the Carroll and Ewing Street neighborhood and the wider fabric of the city. Through tireless effort, the Rescue Mission provides vital services and support to community members, often the most vulnerable, which benefit not only individuals but the broader community.
Adjacent to the site, on Carroll Street, is the former home of Harlan “Bruce” Joseph. Harlan inspired us to “push ideas instead of people”. By designing together with the community, we honor his name and the world he imagined.
